Rather than presenting the body as a complete and resolved form, it focuses on fragmentation, interruption, and partial visibility.
Through the use of French folds, images are layered, concealed, and revealed over time.
Forms overlap, edges are cut, and certain parts remain intentionally hidden, allowing the viewer to encounter the body in fragments rather than as a whole.
This structure reflects Schiele’s distinctive approach to the human figure—where distortion, cropping, and exposure coexist with absence and restraint.
The act of unfolding becomes a metaphor for looking: a slow process of uncovering, where meaning is not immediately given but gradually assembled.
By physically engaging with the book, the viewer participates in reconstructing the image, experiencing the tension between what is seen and what remains concealed.
